Belated comment. Good essay which resonates in many ways. I enjoyed reading, thanks. I learnt the same lesson at the same age, about 40 years ago when I was a student. Heavily unionised job site One thousand ways to improve processes...you know the story. Which is when I knew I needed to work for myself. Good lesson at the right time.

I haven't read it, but will do. Thanks. Bernays is as malevolent a character as the world has produced. A true enabler. Enabled plenty of nonsense, starting with his uncle. I have read his Engineering of Consent (https://archive.org/details/edward-bernays-texts). Planned obsolescence is a subject I'm familiar with and am continuously surprised when people don't get it. Well maybe not so much these days. As young engineering students 30+ years ago p.o. was a much discussed issue.

Bernays was surely a psychopath. Perhaps His uncle, as well...

My work is all about solving for those psychopaths in control. Love always!
